IMDB Mystery Woman

I was going to make a post about this when I read the news article a few weeks ago.  Makes a mini blind item.  However, I just thought it was plain boring.  Now this week, Ted made a post about it.  So, if anyone wants to discuss this, here you go.  Here is Ted's post ... discuss away!

Help Us Crack the Code: Who's the IMDB Mystery Woman?

You know we live to dish about anything mysterious here at the A.T.
So, when we got the scoop on the IMDb mystery woman, we had to start a little guessing game of our own.
Even though Amazon.com thinks they know whodunit, we think you Awful readers are the best detectives of all.
Here's what we do know:
The woman's original suit reveals she's an Asian woman, residing in Texas, who's around 40 years old.
We also know the woman claims she lost out on loads of roles after the site revealed her true age, so we're searching for a much younger-lookin' gal who's not at the top of her Tinsel Town game. Now onto the guessing...
Could it be Lucy Liu? Girl's career did peak after her role in Charlie's Angels, and she does look much younger than her real age, 43. But the gal has had a steady flow of jobs regardless of her birth date, so it seems unlikely she would resort to a lawsuit.
Or, what about Maggie Q? For starters, she's gorgeous, and her current IMDb profile reveals she's 32 years old. Come to think of it, a pretty face like that would be devastated if the world knew she was really pushing 40. Then again, she's got a solid gig as Nikita, so maybe she is 32, after all.
But maybe, Kelly Hu is a better guess? The one-time Miss Teen USA has been working in H'wood forever, but no doubt, she hasn't starred in a hottie role for some time. Plus, her age is listed as 43, and according to the mystery woman, that would make her, say, totally expired in Hollywood?
But if Kelly hasn't hit her expiration date, perhaps we should look at Sandra Oh? Girl's age is listed at 40 years old, but she doesn't seem the type to buy into the exhausting and sadly ridiculous (but true) H'wood ageism thing. On the other hand, maybe she's worried about a gig, post-Grey's Anatomy?
Or perhaps, this mystery woman has us all fooled and she's got just one measly 1988 movie-of-the week to her credit and she just started the whole friggin' thing for publicity?
Sound off, Awful readers, and let us know who you think the mystery woman is!

Top guess:

I personally thought this was Sandra Oh when I read it. Do NOT think this was Lucy Liu. I am not familiar with the Nikita actress - sounds like it could be her though.

Don't think it's Sandra Oh. Watched her often during interviews where she is grateful for the work at her age, and her racial profile.

Will try to find a few links, if I remember correctly, it was after the first year Grey debuted, where Sandra was nominated for a Golden Globe (I think), for her role in a little indie movie... With Thomas Haden Church.

I think it's Kelly Hu. Or more someone like her. The way the blind was worded, gives the impression the actress has not worked in a long time, and blames imdb for her lack of getting contracts because they've clearly stated her real age.

Sandra Oh has steadily been working since a year before the start of Grey's Anatomy. And has been in many movies since as well.

BTW, wonder what Nicole Kidman would do if this were to happen to her.

For some reason my mind jumped straight to Tia Carrere

There were some guesses on the E! Board that it was Nicole Bilderback of "Bring It On." She lives in Dallas. Though since Nicole was a child actress, appearing on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and in an ABC afterschool special, it seems hard to believe she'd be so concerned about people figuring out her true age.

She is a soft-core porn actress from Saigon who grew up in Houston. She is lying about her real birthdate. She is really late 30's to early 40's but you may find that she is listing her birthyear as 1980.

She has appeared in many late night movies in Showtime and like many Asian women, her looks are "youthful." It only makes sense that the "actress" in question is none other than:

Christine Nguyen

It doesn't seem likely that anyone would be making a fuss over some obscure, softcore actress who doesn't even have biographical information listed on her imdb page.

Also, the imdb message board is full of people who know "personally" that it isn't Nicole Bilderback. I don't think this is actually proof, but it seems like she's been doing guest spots pretty regularly.

Sandra Oh hasn't really ever hidden things like that. She's been around long enough and doing quality work, so I think she's pretty secure in herself. And I saw a People magazine from this year with Lucy Liu featured as a woman in her 40's. Maggie Q's past is a bit more shady, and I've read she's rather unpleasant, so ...

I think this is a publicity play by a no-name, and like some folks over at BlindGossip, my vote is for Stacy Arnell. Her IMDB profile is worth checking out for the laughs regardless. See her bio & all the bizarro message board posts.

Mama Bear - You're so right!! I just looked at Stacy Arnell's message board and it's hysterical! There is obviously one person (probably her) who posts comments and subsequent replies using many different screen names. The very odd punctuation gives it away, though.

All that aside, she fits the age requirement with a birthdate in 1970. She has my vote.

In the original blind, it says the actress uses an "Americanized stage name" to help her career. Ted omits this bit of (imo) cruicial info that would eliminate many of the guesses. Nicole Bilderback, for instance, has that name b/c she's adopted. It's not a stage name, it's her real name. "Nguyen" also is far from "Americanized" (a better term would have been "Anglicized").

Wow... just checked out that Stacy Arnell's page. Hysterical.

I think that it is Maggie Q. I have know her for about 10 years and when I first met her she was 27 so you do the math. that makes her almost 40

What about Bai Ling from Celebrity Rehab? On her Wikipedia page it says she's 45 (yikes in Hollywood terms), but she looks much younger. I could see her freaking out about her age and trying to lie about it.

re: Momma L

i think you could be on to something there.

Again, in the original blind, it says the actress uses an "Americanized stage name" to help her career. "Bai Ling" is hardly "Americanized."

Can I just say that this is really sad. It's sad that a woman (and yes we're all going to be in our 40's one day...even our 50's and 60's - if you live that long)is considered useless in Hollywood or unhireable once they hit 40. Why? In the UK...your career doesn't take off until then. I personally can't stand seeing teeny boppers running around trying to act like adults. They can barely act. I want to see great writing and a great performance. What's with the double standards? Men work until they're 100.

Mystery solved, and no one guessed it, which is not surprising. Gawker.com revealed it was "Huong Hoang, stage name Junie Hoang... a 40-year-old Vietnam-born Texan who says IMDb's ruthless privacy invasion has jeopardized her career as 'Ghetto Girl Three' in Hoodrats 2: Hoodrat Warriors and 'Sandy' in Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver."

Yes, I read this and thought WHO?? Don't think it was IMDB's fault.

crilla16 - couldnt agree more. Outside of Streep, Keaton and Weaver there just isn't any consistently working female of that age that gets varied work. An example being Susan Sarandon who seems to be regulated to the grandmother roles these days. The writing is terrible in 85% of modern films as well.

As we see, it wasn't Stacy Arnell, Mama Bear. You were wrong. Checked out her imdb and it's strong. You're just a hater.
