Goodbye, Awful Truth

So sad.  Yesterday Ted Casablanca wrote this Thank You article on his column.  We've seen for the past few weeks now that there were less columns and no new Blind Vices for the past few weeks.  So we saw it coming but am still upset.  We will miss you so much, Ted!  Us four sisters have been reading this column for so long... for me it's been since at least 2003.
We'll not only miss the witty Blind Vices, but also Ted's viewpoint on everything!  I always trusted that Ted knew what was going on and loved reading his opinions on things.  We will miss you Ted and the Awful Truth.  Good luck on your new endeavors!

  1. I've been waiting to hear what you guys would have to say about this one! I think I've been reading him about as long as you. I'll miss him. Do you think maybe he'll write elsewhere? Was there a falling out with E!? I noticed on his twitter he put #happynfree. That could mean a lot of things, I guess. But this seems unplanned. I knew when we didn't get a big TomKat article or any little references to Fey Oild Tush over the weekend that something was wrong.

  2. I don't know... some people under some other posts have been saying he might be in trouble for the Jeremy Renner thing. (see his recent BV). I don't know. I saw it coming but was hoping it was just a long vacation and would have some sort of explanation. I didn't even see it yesterday, just tonight when I sat down to see if there was a new BV. Surprised but not shocked I guess. If he's happy and free that's great though!

We will still keep all of his BV info here for kicks. Who knows... maybe Ted will write about his BV characters again in another outlet? We can only hope.

  3. This made me truly sad.

Wish Ted the best, and truly hope he is far from done. The Awful Truth was on Premiere, he took it to E!, and I hope he had negotiated with savvy and kept control of the AT.

Remember what a thrill it was to have your question posted on the Bitch-Backs? It was way before we got used to daily commenting on gossip blogs. Loved that man's sass and tolerance of some's imbecilic implications. One of the very few Gossip bloggers who had the balls of brass to post negative, bashing comments about himself, and answer back with snarky love.

Admired him for this so much.

For a while there many other bloggers were stealing from him, and every one wanted to have their own Blind Vices. None equaled Ted's.

I don't know what his end-of-contract deal with E! entitles, and how long he must keep silent as well as off the market he agreed to stay, but I hope Ted has mercy on us fans, and gives us news soon on what is coming: Awful Truth rebooted, or Retirement unraveled.

    Today, he tweeted the following:

"Thank u 4 all ur sweet sweet words! Charlie Margo & I ‪#happy‬'n'free."

    But later on, he tweeted:

"@TomCruise sources telling me while on vacay Tom is "flipping out" jeez can u blame him?"

So this gives me much hope. The ol' gossip is still at it, even during vacation.

  4. Hi Rita!
I just was on twitter and saw that. I am glad he is still tweeting but hope he writes more than just one line here and there. He is just the best at writing gossip about celebs. And don't even get me started on the BVs. I am hoping that yes, one day we have his Awful Truth column in some other form. We have got to hear more about these BV characters. We're keeping all of this info here... in hopes that some day we can piece it all together! :) You hear us, Ted? Gotta get our updates on Toothy at some point right?!

    ReplyDelete
  5. This hit me like a ton of bricks! I had no idea!! Never saw it coming. :(
I'll keep checking in here to see if there's any new info. We are part of a subculture, and love him or loathe him, Ted is a huge part of that subculture. I can't believe he'd leave us hanging like this. Surely he'll be back somewhere??
    I need a hug. :(

    ReplyDelete
  6. Maybe in a few months (hopefully sooner) he can launch his own gossip website and can talk about real scandals. Not E-approved shit like Twatlight and the Kartrashians. Maybe we'll get really good stuff!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I missed Ted long before he officially left, so this isn't having as much of an impact on me. These last few years, I've felt his columns have devolved into fan service to Twilight, The Hunger Games, Supernatural, Glee, 50 Shades. Between that and BV's that were contradictory and became more and more like unbelievable soap operas, I just found him hard to take seriously anymore.

  8. I'm glad to see other people are as upset as I am. I was so gutted when I checked the AT section of E! app yesterday. My boyfriend couldn't understand what was wrong and I tried to explain what a blind vice was but he just didn't get it (haha).
On the off chance that Ted reads this... please please continue on somehow! You have so many fans and we already miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wow, it's the end of an era! Sad, but he's probably "happy n free" from the E! legal team! I also hope that he'll be back soon in some other way and he'll be even better than ever!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey Blurry!

Have you noticed how NO ONE is addressing Ted's departure???

Not the ladies on CB, not even Lainey.

Does anyone watch E! News? Have they mentioned him at all? Thrown him a goodbye party?

If every gossip blogger keeps silent by next Tuesday, I'm gonna start believing they're in E!'s deep hush-money pockets, and that something very-very wrong went down!

    ReplyDelete
  11. My mom always watches E!News & i made sure to watch the whole hour with her yesterday, & they didn't mention Ted leaving at all. I think that's classless -he's been a huge part of the network/website forever & deserves a farewell to be acknowledged. I'll miss ya, Ted. Thanks for many, many good times on awful truth

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Rita, that's a good point that none of the other blogs have mentioned it. I bet they are on the E! payroll, the whole thing just seems shady.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That is odd that it is not mentioned elsewhere...
I will miss Ted's blinds, but I would only come here to read them. I too grew tired of trying to sift through all the twilight, hunger games, etc. garbage...let alone try to read the comments!

I hope he comes back better than ever.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Teds departure makes me very sad indeed. Only his blind vices were the ones I truly believed were genune. I feel bad for him as to me it seems like it was a case of jump or be pushed over the Jeremy Renner vice. Very sad. Also for us as we will probably never know the vices are that are unsolved. .Ted if by some chance you are reading this thank you and I wish you well in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've found only one little mention so far, and it was on Andy Towle's as daily links (The Towleroad).

Haven't checked Perez, and I'm afraid to. That little copy-cat maggot better have a whole section celebrating Ted. He owes him much.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yea this is a surprise, but I am sure he will surface elsewhere, perhaps as an independent blogger, ala Lainey, and he can print what he wants without pressure from above. I agree with the comment above that he was becoming a bit silly in the last 2 yrs, with contradictions galore on these BV's. If he starts anew, he should address the old BVs and the 'rules' he gave.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Super bummed. Ted was my fave.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ... And not one word from his colleagues on Eonline! Didn't see Kristen, nor any of the others wish Ted good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Enty has written a post about it today. Reading between the lines Ted pissed of the big wigs who put him on suspension before they decided to show him the exit. I have been a fan of Ted for years. Very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. re Suki: Jeez, Fakey really dove deep to come up with that one. Couldn't have phrased it better myself... it's what everyone assumes. Thanks Fakey for taking a rumor, and writing it as if it's your news, bravo!

    ReplyDelete
  21. A better farewell would've been revealing all of the BV's!

    ReplyDelete
  22. This site is on my bookmarks bar which is crowded; can I say I hope this resource stays open no matter what :)

I've referenced this site for help solving other blinds, plus I just love re-reading old Teds here because you can't find them easily on freakin E.

E is now gone from my bookmarks; Ted C was the only reason I was going there anyway. I'm hopeful Ted C will reappear with his own site, and you'll have new stuff to link to soon!

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is VERY sad. If no one else is addressing his departure it is a sure sign he was fired. Other gossip outlets are probably trying to get the scoop now themselves. Although I had lapsed from daily Awful Truth reading (I couldn't stand all the Twilight and Hunger Games posts anymore), I will never forget the early days of my discovering Ted, which goes back to the late 90's! I had never read anyone before that went behind the headlines and PR friendly articles on the stars. I had no idea bearding existed to such an extent in Hollywood before Ted lol!

He will end up in a better place. I need to add him to my Twitter right now!

    ReplyDelete
  24. totally floored! I had kind of checked out these lasts two years as well, but I will miss his snark! I really hope he gets his own blog going or writes a tell all or something.
Blurry you crack me up with your anti-Enty comments!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi all! Gosh, I've been reading you all for so long...I feel like I know you. I started reading Ted when I started getting on the internet...so WAY back in the day. Well, research on blind vices led to Lainey, which led to more, which led to you, which led to 30 minutes to 1 hour of stress relief every day during grad school. And all of my internships and jobs. Ahhh. I feel like I'm losing a friend.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've been lurking here a long time, but just have to say how much Ted will be missed. It's been obvious for quite awhile now that he hasn't been as personally involved in writing the articles (or else he was losing his spelling and grammar skills) and horrid, repetitious Twit and Shades of Blah stuff had to be soul killing. So I guess I'm not sold on how the mention of the word "Jeremy" put the stake into the Awful Truth, or if there's been a more long term fight going on. I'm really glad not to have to go to the E site anymore, what a bad doggie that is!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I too had checked out of visiting E for Ted's column until I found this site. I have lurked here for over a year now and found it to be a place for intelligent discussion as opposed to the dreck on the message boards. It was also nice to know that the letters he answered were real, as evidenced by Rita and several others who mentioned their questions had been featured. I will continue to check in here because if anyone finds out where Ted lands next, it will be posted for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've read Ted since Premiere :(

I think he was let go, otherwise there would be more made of this. A press release. A job lined up. A goodbye party, or at the very least a goodbye column penned by someone else at E singing his praises.

I also think it's been a long time coming, and not just some slip of the word "Jeremy." I mean, I think Ted and E! have been rocky for awhile. Ted changed his way of writing about 2-3 years ago. For those of us (maybe few in number) who really enjoyed his wacky and almost indecipherable way of writing, this change was obvious and sad. I thought the change came about from up top - "be more mainstream." Other directives from up top were likely things like "push Twilight 24/7."

This is probably why his blind vices weren't that juicy in recent months. Lots of updates to old vices. Why give them more materials? Maybe he's been saving it. And then he changed his twitter handle months ago...

I will hold out hope that Ted will start his own site and take the blind vices with him. Here's to hoping!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Trebuchet - thank you!

kshars - don't worry this site is not going anywhere. There is still alot to talk about!

I've been thinking about it... I was sad on Friday but now after reading his tweets and thinking about it, it's all good! Ted isn't really going anywhere... just his E column. I do think that Ted and E have been at it for some time. I think honestly Ted has been trying to break free and is probably really hapy that now he can do his own thing. I am not worried at all. I think he will have his own blog and do just fine! I bet it will be up an running soon. Remember when his column was weekly, on Thursdays only? And then it was daily. Then it became YELLOW and was more like a blog? I think Ted has been leaning towards blogging instead of writing a column and now he can do it his own way. And I know his site was taken over by twi hards... but Ted does really like Rob and Kristen so I don't think they will go anywhere. But just maybe he'll be able to write about other stuff too now. It's exciting really! I'm happy for him.

    ReplyDelete
  30. BTW I changed the title, "goodbye awful truth" instead of "goodbye ted". I was over-emotional for that one, LOL! I don't see us losing TED himself now. Just his E column. We're gonna be OK, guys! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thank you, Sarah & NancyW... You said exactly what I was thinking. Good riddance E, I no longer have to go to that site!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Looking at the brand new E! website this morning, it looks like a LOT has changed.
    http://www.eonline.com/

I don't think this was about the word "Jeremy" at all.

    good bye Fake Ferocity!
    good bye Charlotte Chuck!.....

  36. Hi all I am a long time lurker at this site and only now coming out of the woodwork to mourn the passing of Awful Truth. It is odd to see that along with me a lot of other people have dropped their Awful Truth habit, but still kept coming to this site. Wonder what is the explanation of that? I am not sure exactly what my reasons were and Awful Truth didn't noticeably worsen over the past few years did it?(though I wouldn't be the best judge, because I haven't really visited the site properly for a long time)

I did have the thrill of getting my guess published on AT - it was the one where he notted my guess of Ryan Reynolds for Judas Jack off - he probably published it because I said I was his biggest Sri Lankan fan. Probably he thought it was cool that he had fans here in Sri Lanka.

Anyway Ted, I will miss you a lot, and I still remain your biggest Sri Lankan fan!!! Of course with or without Ted, I still plan to lurk around Blind items exposed for all the entertainment you guys provide.

  37. Lainey posted a cryptic comment today about "the one we trusted who, as it turns out, can’t actually be trusted." Reference to Ted?

    ReplyDelete
  38. @verbeel, saw it too.

This reminded me, even if Lainey is at times choking on it, she is now indirectly an employee of the same subsidiary as Eonline!

Can't wait to see what she says/hints on Ted's departure. At times, she can be an unloyal b-tch, or as she puts it, a "finicky" one.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am totally bummed by this. I agree that he seemed to have changed his ways over the last couple years. (Is it wrong that I was so annoyed by him renaming "bitch back" to "morning mail"?) There were probably a lot of things leading up to this, but my guess is the "jeremy" slip-up was the straw that broke the camel's back. Shame. I'm sure he'll resurface. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

    ReplyDelete
  40. So who's going to the gossip university to find out :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hope we see you pop up somewhere new really soon Ted. Somewhere that doesn't censor as much as E!

Perhaps there wasn't much controversy in Ted's departure as we think. E! seems to be trying hard to brand themselves as the go-to celebrity news source - daily news, reporting from red carpets, big name interviews, etc. Gossip, blind vices and celebrity trashing don't fit in with that marketing strategy and could actually hurt it. Teds expertise and value lies in the seedier stuff that E! tries to shy away from. If you notice, they also cancelled the Answer Bitch column.

Like i said, I really hope he pops up somewhere where he can do is thing #happynfree

    ReplyDelete
  42. Waiting for Lainey's post about Ted. Wonder if it will be straight-up or in a blind riddle. In any case, I highly suspect the forshadowing in her intro today WAS about Ted. And she leads with this whole "Gossip Is Immortal, especially when it’s in Latin." thing. Latin may be a reference to TedSpeak? And she tweeted out an image of this gossip crest thing. Weird stuff.

I sincerely hope if she's gonna trash him that she has something she reveals to back it up, otherwise it's just gonna come off as bashing your former main competition. And I don't like it when people get kicked when they're down.

My sister's theory is this. When Ted posted the blind where he slipped Jeremy Renner, it tipped off others that his blinds are made-up because perhaps Renner isn't actually gay. It's an interesting theory, indeed. But, everyone thinks Renner is gay! Except Lainey.

    ReplyDelete
  43. are we discussing tom cruise somewhere right now? this is from teds twitter:

Katie Holmes father helped "orchestrate" split? Yes, true. Hearing more than that though. this been in works for long, long time

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Lila, the hint was for those who would be attending her school of whatever gossip/soirées she is having in some Canadian cities.

So if anyone will b attending, please don't be shy and share with the rest of us!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why would Ted not be trusted, I don't get that comment- Is she trying to say he made stuff up.

    ReplyDelete
  46. FYI, someone Tweeted Ted the link to this Thank you - his response:

    ‏@Ted_Casablanca
@nikkiBOZ really lovely, thank you. And we will rock again, no worries.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Long time lurker, first time poster..

I was saddened to hear of his departure. I wondered what was up after E! launched a new iphone app design and the Awful Truth could not be found (the only reason I used the app). A few days later he posted that he was leaving. Major bummer. Hopefully we will read a new blog of his soon.

    ReplyDelete
  48. thanks to all for your comments and we will be sure to find where Ted lands, and continue to follow any more of his BV's.
VERY interesting that some of you think Lainey's cryptic comments could have been linked to Ted. I had the impression she respects Ted as a colleague..however was not shy about disagreeing about the Toothy/Jake thing..she said more than once that Jake was not gay.
Could this be why she is saying "the one we thought we could trust, we now cannot"....maybe some of his more famous blinds are being proven wrong? Makes me think the Jeremy R thing could be it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I also agree with all of you that said the E site is a pain...it literally gave me a headache and I could never bring myself to navigate it. We left it to blurry to do the dirty work over there and bring it here!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. A few years back, Ted and Lainey had written about their first meeting on their respective site. I believe it was during a red-carpet or another, after communicating via email for a long time, and showering each other with compliments.

To my knowledge, up until Lainey's snide comment today (then again, we might be misinterpreting), I thought Lainey had nothing but respect and admiration for Ted, and gave the impression that they were somewhat each other's tips in regards to gossip. Even if they disagree on some's sexual orientation.

I had written Lainey when Ted announced his quitting, and asked if she'll be covering, and giving us her POV. She never answered. Or posted anything hinting to Ted's departure.

This is surprising. And right now, I am feel quite protective of Ted... Who is sharing much of his personal life! Hilarious his dentist gas.

Hope we'll hear soon enough what Lainey meant by the one who can't be trusted anymore.

And anyone else feels... turned off by the spread of the new Eonline? It doesn't encourage one to read through, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I checked out Eonline yesterday to see if they still had old posts from The Awful Truth up and noticed the entire layout changed. Yes, it turned me off too. I clicked right outta there! With Ted gone there is no need for me to ever return. I used to read Watch with Kristen but it got too saccharine and PR friendly. I liked the dirtier stuff that Ted provided. Hmmm, yes, e has distanced itself from anything that could be controversial it would seem. It would be nice if Ted made an appearance here (as he knows we exist) and enlightened us! We would probably never believe it was him though, would we!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks Rita - I totally misread that Lainey intro!

Except for CDAN's fake insider knowledge post (which may be true - who knows), no other gossips have posted about Ted's departure. Where are the tributes??? I want Ted tributes!!

Ted's tweet last night - "Where was nitrous oxide the past 6 months?" - I'm guessing it's been a rough six months for him over at E! Glad he made it to the other side.

(One more thing on CDAN / Enty / Fakey - it seems many of his readers actually think he is an overweight attorney with a drinking problem? Really? The blogger is so obviously (to me!) in character. It's probably a woman, or women - whoever it is most certainly does not have another job - blogging that much is far MORE than a full-time job for one person. Plus when you're handling sponsors and advertising and tips - CDAN is a profitable business, not a blog on the side. As to whether there is any legitimacy to the blinds at all - who knows? I think a little bit, with LOTS of embellishment.)

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Rita - I totally agree, I hate the new E site, they've made it in to more a a TV site (like cbs.com or abc.com) I haven't been back there nearly as much without Ted. I hope they lose site traffic!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. sistah2 - interesting about the comment about the one who can no longer be trusted. I just read that too and you could be right. Might be about Ted. She always insisted Jake G was straight. Who knows?

Lila - That has been my point about Fakey all along. He claims he is an entertainment lawyer. FALSE. I know entertainment lawyers in LA and none have time to blog on the side let along constantly blog all day and post pictures of Suki etc. I could see maybe an ent lawyer having a side blog posting blind items once a week or so or randomly. But the fact that he/she is blogging random photos all day make it unbelievable that this person is who he/she says they are. It's some random person who is doing it full time from home. And whiel I am on the subject, "blindgossip" is even worse. They make no claims who they are whatsoever... at least Fakey has a fake job/persona. blindgossip makes no statements, came out of nowhere with blind items daily. Why should anyone believe those are true? At least with Ted, Lainey, NY Post, we know who is writing it. No one is anonymous and pretending. As for the two blinds on our site in the past 5 years, we have stated before that we do not work in entertainment yet know some people who do. Two blinds in 5 years for random people, VS 5 every week from a random person blogging? Why would I believe 5 blinds per week from a random blogger?

    ReplyDelete
  55. The blindgossip blinds actually crack me up, because a lot of the time they're recent entertainment news stories, just with the names removed. (Like the one about a mom who made her daughter make a sex tape to get famous and had them do reshoots....except this blind came out about a week after Kris Humphries' girlfriend told TMZ that). Or they're just assinine ones that there's no way it could be true.

    ReplyDelete
  56. @PrincessTiff haha blindgossip cracks me up to! It annoys me so much that they just rehash current celebrity news stories, and everyone who comments is just like "oh you're so knowledgeable, you know whats going on!" hahaha

Also I love Enty! I don't know if he really is a lawyer, but ALOT of what he says ends up being true, so I do think he is in the entertainment field.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Those discussing Renner ... He is absolutely gay, yeah Ted slipped up but it's the absolute truth & not a secret in Hollywood. Also, a Celeb Real Estate blog featured a property he owned & on the deeds were him & his supposed boyfriend of many years - strange as most celebs keep their names off any property deeds & use companies etc.. But Jeremy & his BF were listed on the deeds going back to the 90's.

As for Jake being gay, sorry ... this isn't even a secret in Hollywood! When comedians start joking about your sexuality at an awards show then safe to say your secret is out there! It's so obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  58. didnt know that Jake G being gay or not was joked about at an awards show....must have missed that one.

    ReplyDelete
  59. So sad, I will miss Ted. I hope he finds a new place to entertain us!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm just glad that Ted basically revealed Alec Baldwin as Lloyd Boy Toyed in his last week. Am I the only one who caught that or who cares? No one is commenting under the last LBT post about it except me. I think it was our last little reveal from Ted, at least in that column. Thanks Ted!

    ReplyDelete
  61. @blurryvice -- yea I caught that too.

I share the sadness! I do feel, like many of you, his tone had changed over the years. I thought he was hit by his divorce pretty hard, then seemed to rebound a bit. I would say the last several months he has not seemed his lovely snarky self. I'll miss him but at least I don't have to dredge through Eonline anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Blurry,

Notice how the Awful Truth SHUT DOWN?

None of the AT people stayed on to continue the work, that Boone guy that imitates often Ted's snark, or that other girl... Forgot the name. But NONE were asked to keep the AT going, which usually happens after the departure of a "department head". For example, The View would (unfortunately) go on, after Barbara's departure.

This leads me to think that Ted has Ownership of the AT. Maybe by fall he'll start up his own blog.

Hopefully, one that allows comments on, but is able to control those rabid twihards.

    ReplyDelete
  63. fiji - i think it was the people at E that were hard on him.

rita - yes, it's all different now, totally gone. I think that's a good sign for him. I wonder if there is a time period he has to wait before starting his own blog. There is probably a waiting period and then he will debut his new blog.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @blurryvice, I also caught the semi reveal of Alec Baldwin as LBT. He semi revealed a few Vices in the weeks before Awful Truth ended (Mila Kunis as Portia Vajazzle, Hayden Christensen as DDD)

    ReplyDelete
  65. If he does get a blog elsewhere, do you think he'll continue with these BV names or will we have to start from scratch?

    ReplyDelete
  66. DId you all see Ted's tweet:

    Ted Casablanca ‏@Ted_Casablanca
hearing some silly stuff out there: @JeremyRenner and @TomCruise had nothing to do w/ my decision to leave E! It was mine alone

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's great that there's a bit of a conspiracy theory also surrounding Ted's departure from E!, how fitting :)

It is odd indeed that I came back from my holidays to find Awful Truth totally vanished. When I searched the E! site there was no mention anywhere of where it is, no news item of tributing the departure of very popular columnist. Just Ted's own letter.

Nonetheless, I reckon it was just some personality clash between Ted and the higher-ups, probably demanding him to change his writing style or limit his topics, which eventually led him to choose to leave.

I don't think the "Jeremy slip" was such a big deal - what if he just originally though of naming the BV character "Jeremy Bone-Jumper" or something, and then changed his mind? That blind may not even be about Renner.

I'm sorry to see him go though! Although his stuff was becoming repetitive recently, it was still the place to go for celeb gossip which sounded insightful and reliable.

Please, help me out, I need my fix - where to go now for gossip?? I don't fancy picking up copies of National Enquirer...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Lol @ Jeremy Bone-Jumper. Sounds like you could have been Ted's successor!

    ReplyDelete
  69. If y'all miss Ted, he was on Dinner Party Show last month, and he is awesome as ever:
